Some Biblical Lessons on Death:

Death is a divine judgment (Gen 2:16-17; 3:3, 17-19).
o Consequence of Adam’s original disobedience to God
Death happens individually (Ps 116).
Death is a mystery (as well as life).
Death gives value to life.
Death introduces uncertainty (Gen 27:2; James 4:15; Luke 12:16-21).
o Therefore we must live by faith o Encourages people to believe God’s truth when they hear it.

Death is final
o When our loved one dies, they can’t return to us (II Sam 12:23).
o It leaves an empty place in our home and heart.
o For the Christian, the finality of death only brightens the reality of heaven.
o For the unbeliever, this finality of death only darkens hopelessness and despair.

Death teaches – Psalm 90
o The sovereignty of God (v-3)
o The frailty of man (v-4-6)
o The brevity of life (12-15)
o The need for wisdom
o The need to know God (16-17)
o The reality of sin.
o The need for forgiveness.

Death is the great leveler!

Death ALWAYS wins!

Death is our enemy
o The shadow of death is cast upon even the longest of lives.
o But Jesus is the only one who “abolished death” – II Timothy 1:10
o Death is the last enemy to be judged – I Cor 15:26; Rev 20:14
o We must still respect this enemy though Jesus has defeated death for us.
