Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

How can there be peace on earth when the world is at war with God? Sinners are even hostile against their Maker and have ill will toward each other on this little blue dot that we are floating on in space. “There is no peace in this wicked world,” you say to yourself! How is there peace when our world is full of adultery, fornication, homosexuality, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, arguments, jealousies, suspicions, eruptions of wrath, selfish motivations, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, malice, pride, lust, passion, and greedy materialism, while the poor go hungry and die just to name some of our issues? Well this peace in verse fourteen is the Gospel that has brought peace between sinful man and The One and only Holy God. The war of hostility is over because of the Gospel! The Savior was predicted as the Prince of Peace in Isaiah 9:6. The Father sent His Son, Jesus, the Christ to make peace by reconciling the world to Himself through His atonement. Secondly, by bringing us sinners to a state of peace with their Maker; convincing us to lay down our weapons of rebellion and receive the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding. Thirdly, by sending in the heart of man the will and desire for good between mankind through the power of the Holy Spirit. Now as Christians we can lay aside our differences and love one another, seek each other’s good, and to put away envy, malice, pride, lust, fighting and covetousness. Just like His physical birth in a lowly place of no reputation, so He is The King who can truly identify with our poverty. Therefore, He makes His home/birth in us, the poor in spirit, the meek, and those who mourn. Just as today Jesus is looking for the willing Inn of man’s heart to come give birth in, not to condemn us, but to save us and give us life. Just as the dirt and filth of the manger did not keep the Son of God from taking birth in the stable, so too our filth of the flesh will not keep Him from being received in your heart this Christmas! Have a blessed and Merry Christmas! Sermon #7001-15 on 12/24/13: Luke 2:14 "Live Life with Peace on Earth, Goodwill Toward Men"
